Contact Categories

The more Skype names or telephone numbers you have on your contact list, the more difficult it gets to locate the one you want. Contact categories can help by letting you categorize contacts into 'work' or 'friends'. We recommend doing this if you have a large number of contacts.

Enable Contact Categories

Select 'Contacts' in the Menu Bar

From the menu bar in the Skype main page, click 'Contacts', 'Contact Categories', and 'See All Contact Categories'.

'All contacts' Tab Appears

The 'Contacts' tab becomes 'All contacts'.

Default Categories will be Displayed

Various default categories will appear by clicking the '▼' symbol to the right of 'All contacts'. If you select 'Skype contacts', for example, the list will be limited to your Skype contacts and any telephone contacts will be excluded. (Note that you can include telephone numbers on your Skype contact list, not just other Skype users.)

Create New Category

Apart from the default categories, you can also create your own categories.

Rename New Category

'All contacts' will change to 'New Category', so you can rename the category as 'Friends' or 'Work', for example, and click the 'Enter' key to finish.

Adding Contacts to New Category

We've made a new category called 'customer'. Select contacts that you want to add to this category and drag-drop to where it says 'Drag contacts here'. Adding contacts to the new category is as simple as that.

This completes the process for creating a new contacts category and adding contacts to it.

Viewing Contacts Categories

To view users in a contact category, click the '▼' symbol to display the list of categories, and click on the one that you want to view (the category 'friend' in the screen shot below, for example). This brings up a list of all the contacts in that particular category.

(Even if you delete a category, the contacts listed in it will not be deleted, and can be displayed by clicking 'All other contacts'.)
